Encounter the sacred in the wild and reconnect with the Earth.
Wild Church Petaluma
Wild Church Petaluma is an emerging expression of community and conversation among the human and non-human inhabitants of the Petaluma watershed. Our church-without-walls is a monthly outdoor gathering inviting relationship with the more-than-human world, honoring of Divine presence, and remembering of our souls, as a necessary practice in a culture of ecological destruction and injustice. We seek to encounter the sacred in the wild and create beloved community re-connected with the Earth.
Our teachers are the coast live oak and the red-tailed hawk, the woodpeckers and wrens, the ancient lichen and the grey stones, and each other. We are not led by doctrine or dogma, but by the Divine Mystery that dwells in us all.
We recognize the sacred in all of creation, and in ourselves, as part of nature. Our gatherings offer opportunities for contemplation, grief and praise, movement and song, solo wandering and wondering, poetry, advocacy, ecological restoration and activism on behalf of and in collaboration with the beloved others in our watershed. Our practices enhance and grow our commitment to Earth and Her Beings, informing the work we do individually and collectively in the outer world.
“The universe is not a collection of objects, but a communion of subjects.”
